[Editor's note] In this article, we heard about the reasons, advantages, and future prospects for active use of ultrasound in clinical practice from Dr. Lee Je-won, the director of BM Korean Internal Medicine Clinic, who was in charge of a recent hands-on abdominal ultrasound training conducted at 'DB Academy'.
Q. What did you focus on in this lecture?
"First, focusing on 'getting started', the main goal was to raise members' interest in abdominal ultrasound through a short lecture of 8 hours in total, including 3 hours of online training and 5 hours of field training. I often hear people say, "Abdominal ultrasound is too difficult. I can't even get paid for it, so why bother studying it?" However, in order to use the ultrasound device properly, you must study abdominal ultrasound. This is because, beyond academic curiosity, it is important to improve public health and ensure a healthy life for the people. Using modern medical devices to accurately evaluate the condition of patients visiting Korean medical institutions and provide diagnosis and treatment is of great help to patients.”
Q. What are the advantages of using ultrasound in internal medicine treatment?
“The important thing in internal medicine is to properly explore the inside of the disease, and ultrasound devices are one of the tools that allow us to explore the disease from various perspectives, along with blood tests, endoscopy, radiology, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tests. Ultrasound examination has the advantage of being able to obtain information in real time that is difficult to obtain through radiography or MRI examination by using pulse-echo, Doppler effect, and shear waves.
And although the field of view is narrow, it also has the advantage of being able to examine narrow areas in detail.
The use of ultrasound devices in internal medicine by K.M.D., along with other tools such as blood tests, adds reliability to diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up tests through Korean Medicine theory, so it can provide objective data and information on the safety and effectiveness of Korean Medicine. Through this data, the Korean Medicine community will be able to communicate with overseas medical experts, and it is believed that it will ultimately make a great leap forward in the promotion and development of Korean Medicine academic research. Ultimately, the use of ultrasound devices in internal medicine by K.M.D. will play a very important role in advancing the development of Korean Medicine and advancing the Korean Medicine revolution.”
